I'd like to close with a tribute to my late husband Cliff who
died 16 October 2003. We were together 40+ years. He was not a 'dog husband' in
the sense that he would handle the dogs in the ring very often, or help with
breeding, or whelp litters. He attended to the other things that needed to be
done, cooking, shopping, cleaning, answering the phone, running errands for dog
food and supplies etc. so the new mothers and their puppies could have my
undivided attention. He always protested and did not have much interest in the
showing and breeding side of things, saying that was just my 'ego trip'. However
he loved the hounds as much as I did. They loved the 'biscuit man' and paid more
attention to him than to me around home. He was proud of their accomplishment in
the show ring though. I often heard him bragging about them, or showing off the
trophies they had won to his friends when he didn't think I was listening. I
could never have accomplished as much as I have in the wonderful world of Irish
Wolfhounds without his help and support. I miss him very much.
