2009 Updates

BISS Multi BIS Can. Ch. Aotearoa Lee Ridge Tote  "Salt"

Salt has had a fantastic year in 2009, far exceeding  my wildest dreams.  To say he has live up to his early promise is an understatement. The comment I have heard most often from  both breeder/judges and all breed judges is they have never seen an Irish Wolfhound of his size move the way he does.

Salt  is currently far ahead of his nearest competitor for #1 IW in Canada for 2009 with 4 All Breed Best in Shows, 1 Best in Specialty Show , 8 Group Firsts, and numerous Group placements to his credit. At the end of 2009 he was also #12 in the Hound Group and #114 All Breeds according to the website www.bestdogincanada.com . The official CKC results may rank him even higher as Best Dog In Canada  only counts Best in Shows and Group placements, and does not include Best of Breed wins or Specialty wins unless the whole Group is included in the Specialty. On one trip to All Breed shows in the USA in September Salt came home with two 4 point majors towards his American Championship and a Group First at shows in the Finger lakes area of Upper New York State. He has also had some nice Specialty wins in the USA including the Gait class at IWANE under breeder/judge Tony Redmond, "Athcarne IWs", Ireland.

#2 IW for 2009  is BIS Can. Ch. Loanoak Grady at Mistyglen whose pedigree is almost 50% AOTEAROA.  #3 IW for 2009 is BIS Can. GCH Royeljoker's Tiger on the loose, half brother to Salt,  also a Manuka son. Tiger was also #2 IW in Canada in 2007. To the best of my knowledge this is the first time in the history of the breed in Canada that the  top 3 Irish Wolfhounds in Canada in any 1 year have descended from the same line. This is a great honour indeed for the AOTEAROA  IRISH  WOLFHOUNDS, and a wonderful way to end this exciting year. I am also proud to say on this my 73rd birthday , January 7th 2010,  that I handled Salt to all these wins myself. Working  together as a team with my majestic boy representing  40 years dedication to this  magnificent breed made it all even more rewarding.
